First, I designed the actual card. We wanted something minimal and simple, yet distinct from typical business cards. I opted for a vertical design that utilized both sides to highlight our branding and individual details. Next, I went to the drawing board, separating static elements from those requiring dynamic content. I sketched a few process ideas and consulted with primary users to understand how this approach would benefit them and what features they valued most.
I designed a custom experience and interface where users could effortlessly input their details and, with a single click, export the front and back of their business card directly to Marketing for printing. Keen to explore mobile development, I embraced the challenge of creating the app myself. Initially, getting things up and running was tricky, especially with the complexities of working with PDFs and ensuring proper sizing. However, through dedicated research and seeking advice, I successfully developed the app, complete with authentication features.
This project not only honed my technical skills but also underscored the importance of persistence and resourcefulness. It was an incredible learning experience, allowing me to work on it end-to-end and gain a wealth of new knowledge. Throughout this journey, I witnessed firsthand both sides of the development process and identified areas where I could improve my working relationship with engineers.
